 fishes of alabama

Alabama has over 77,424 miles of freshwater rivers and streams. They are inhabited with one of the most diverse fish groups in North America with more than 320 freshwater and 100 marine species.

The Fishes of Alabama poster features 40 fish that are native to the Alabama waterways. The fish are positioned on the poster to represent the depth in which they live in our water column. The poster also lists the average adult measurements of each fish.

Several of the fish featured on the poster are: southern sand darter, river redhorse, holiday darter, gulf sturgeon, chain pickerel, bayou topminnow, Tallapoosa shiner, and the bluefin killifish.

The poster was produced by Legacy, Inc. and a team of volunteers in 1999.
